Art Techniques

 If you are attending monthly classes it is recommended that you bring your own sketchbook to each class.

Sketching

All students will learn how to create preparatory drawings that are usually drawn quickly for planning a work of art.

All students will sketch for the first 10 minutes of each class.

Shading techniques learned: Hatching, Cross-hatching, Stippling and Blending.  


Drawing

Students will learn how to create images by using drawing mediums, incorporating art elements and principles of design.

Students will learn drawing techniques before commencement of a painting.

Materials used:  Charcoal, Graphite, Conte, Colored Pencils and Pastels.

Art Element include:

Line, Value, Shape, Form, Color, Texture and Space.

Principles of Design include:

Balance, Contrast, Repetition, Emphasis and Unity.


Painting

Students will learn how to apply paint to create an image.

Materials used:  Acrylic paint, Watercolor paint, Paintbrushes, Palette knives and Palette.


Lessons include:  Steps to creating a painting, how to apply paint, which types of brushes/ tools to use, underpainting and layers, blending, identifying and creating values and color theory.
